Nigerians to Get NDLEA Drug-Free Certificates Before Getting Married

The chairman of Nigerian drugs enforcement Agency NDLEA Mr. Buba Marwa,  has announced that Nigerian youths would soon have to be certified illicit drug free before being allowed to marry

Marwa made this publicity during a seminar Ekiti State capital themed  “Walk Away from Drugs’’ adding that Spouse will be asked to  provide drug-free certifications as part of marriage requirements

The issue he called worrisome, the session was organised by Ekiti Ministry of Justice.

In his words he said  “ Nigeria today, has no bigger challenge among youths that is more worrisome than drug abuse.


According Marwa, insurgency, kidnapping and banditry are seen as peculiar to some parts of the country, but drug abuse has no boundary or respect for ethnicity or religion.

He added that over N60-billion worth of  illicit drug have been confiscated in the past 60-days, and owner if the drugs have been arrested and made to face the full wrath of the law.

If the menace of illicit drugs is curtailed and proper awareness is done by concerned stake holder crime would reduce among the youths by 50% he noted.

The NDLEA boss further lamented that the genesis in the new revolution of a drug free society will be attained if parents are made to provide a certification of their drug free children before allowing them to marry

Also present at the seminar was Ekiti State Governor Kayode Fayemi who reminded the attendants of his commitment to bring drug abuse to to zero in his state and beyound

Ekiti State’s Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Wale Fapounda, ascertained that most of the criminals prosecuted were found be under the influence of drugs 

Others in attendance were traditional rulers, Ekiti State commandant of the NDLEA, Gaura Shedow, representatives of road transport workers, market women and youths and other stake holders
