FG launches temporary passport (NTP) for Nigerians in diaspora

FG of Nigeria has launched a Temporary Passport (NTP) for Nigerians in the diaspora 

 Rauf Aregbesola the federal minister for interior confirmed this in a speech at  Nigerian Immigration Service Headquaters (NIS), Abuja today 9th March 2021.

He said the (NTP) will be issued to citizens who's national passports are not available due to one reason or the but wish to return to the country adding it will be given at Nigerian embassies and high commission worldwide

This document NTP is made for just a one-way travel which is (back to Nigerian only)


This provisional document is a replacement of the Emergency Travel Certificate formally given for this purpose to Nigerians

Mr. Rauf stressed that the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) is a complaint document and is will be valid just for 30-days before travelling date of the holder

The controller general of Nigerian Immigration Service  Mr. Muhammad Babandede added that, this  "Temporary Passport will facilitate the country and it citizens effective identity management when travelling

This new genre of ID will has a micro chip and surface personalisation that will bring about Electronic Passport Management System (EPMS)” he ended
