Lucas Mhlanga, A Zimbabwean Assaults wife for not singing at a funeral

On Monday, 39 year old barber, Lucas Mhlanga was arrested and tried for assault by Bulawayo Magistrate Mrs Nomagugu Maphosa to which he pleaded guilty.

The couple attended a funeral in the same suburb, he asked wife Sikhulekili why she did not sing at the funeral and assaulted her, Mr. Owen Mugari, appearing for state said.

Mr. Lucas pleaded the court’s leniency, promised not to assault his wife again, blaming alcohol for his actions, his wife said that she had forgiven him because he had promised not to repeat it and because he is the father of her son who is a minor.

The Magistrate ordered Mhlanga to pay $5,000 by May 30 or get a 60-day experience in prison, she said this after considering the affidavit brought forward by the wife (complainant) to withdraw the case and the son’s upkeep may be affected since the accused is the breadwinner.
